Distinguish an initial conversation from legal work

An initial case review and a retained investigation are different stages. Ask what is included in each stage, what records will be reviewed, and what written work product you will receive. Do not assume a free inquiry includes representation.

Ask about the full scope

Request a written explanation of fees, payment terms, expenses, and the work covered. Ask what happens if negotiation does not resolve the matter and whether arbitration or litigation would require a separate agreement.

Evaluate clarity, not outcome promises

A useful fee discussion explains the proposed work and its limits. It should not depend on a guarantee that a contract will disappear or that money will be recovered. Defiant Law discusses the applicable scope and terms before retained services begin.

General educational information. Your contract, location, and dates matter. Ask for advice about your circumstances before making legal or payment decisions.

Ask what is included at each stage

Request a written description of investigation, negotiation, and any later arbitration or litigation. Ask about third-party expenses, payment timing, and what happens if more work is needed. A free initial review does not mean that document analysis, a demand letter, or representation is automatically included.

Build the review file

Signed installation and finance agreements, lease or PPA; the proposal and disclosures; signing records; utility bills and production reports; photos and inspections; messages and complaint responses; permit, PTO, warranty and account notices.

Common mistakes to avoid

Do not delete original messages, crop away dates, or send only the signature page. Do not assume a complaint stops a payment obligation or a deadline. Before accepting a repair, buyout, or release, identify what it changes. You can contact us even if records are incomplete; tell us what is missing.

Questions homeowners ask

Do I need every document before contacting you?

No. Start with what happened and what records you have. The team can explain what additional material may be useful and how to share it securely.

Does this problem mean I can cancel or stop paying?

This page cannot determine that. The agreements, parties, evidence, and applicable rules need individual review. Do not change payments based on a calculator or this guide.

What happens after a free review request?

Our intake team reviews the inquiry and contacts you using the details supplied. Any retained investigation or representation requires a separate agreement describing scope and fees. This is not an emergency response service.
